Katana & Wakizashi
Samurai swords were traditional weapons used by the samurai of ancient and feudal Japan. They are still used today for various forms of martial arts. The most well-known type of samurai sword is the katana, recognizable for its long, curved blade. This Katana is made of stainless steel and features a 73cm curved and sharpened blade. The sword measures 97cm in total. The weapon comes with a glossy lacquered scabbard and wrapped handle decoration.
The first original Japanese swords that are considered the precursor of the ‘modern’ katana began to appear during the early Heian period (around 700 CE).
Katana was mainly used by the samurai, the military nobility of feudal Japan (1185-1600) up through the Edo period (1603–1868). The increased popularity of the katana among samurai came about because of the changing nature of close-combat warfare. The quicker draw of this sword was well suited to combat where victory depended heavily on fast response times. The katana was worn and thrust through a belt-like sash (obi) with the sharpened edge facing up. Ideally, samurai could draw the sword and cut the enemy in a single motion.
The Samurai Wakizashi was a backup sword, It is a great balanced sword that can be wielded either with one or two hands and can be used in tight places or in case the Samurai lost his Katana in battle. the Wakizashi is also known to be used for the ritual suicide called seppuku. The Wakizashi is made of stainless steel and features a 43cm curved and sharpened blade. The sword measures 61cm in total.
